Party Minigame Architecture & Gameplay Overhaul in Verse

Engineered the gameplay systems and minigame rotation engine for the official Mr. Day branded Fortnite experience at Milan Games Week 2025. Taking over a pre-existing 3D environment, I refactored the project codebase, eliminated deprecated mechanics, and programmed a suite of dynamic, fast-paced party minigames in UEFN (Unreal Engine 5 for Fortnite) using Verse.


Core Gameplay: Party Royale Minigame Sequence

Players competed across a rapid-fire sequence of randomized party minigames, earning round points to determine the ultimate match winner:

  • Color Switch / Falling Tiles: Floor tiles flash and indicate a target color; players must quickly reach the safe platform before the remaining tiles vanish beneath them.
  • Mr. Day Snack Collector: High-speed arena challenge where players race against the clock to collect as many spawned Mr. Day snacks as possible.
  • Snack Tag (Keep-Away): Hot-potato style mode where players must hunt down and steal the branded snack from the active holder before the countdown expires.
  • Tower Climb / Parkour Rush: Vertical obstacle course testing agility and movement precision to reach the summit first.

Technical Architecture & Verse Systems

Central Minigame Rotation State Machine

  • Randomized Playlist Controller: Built an asynchronous round coordinator in Verse that randomly selected upcoming minigames, dynamically spawned arena assets, and handled smooth round transitions.
  • Synchronized Player Teleportation: Programmed batch player teleportation routines moving all participants into respective minigame arenas with pre-round countdown locks.

Modular Minigame Rulesets & Win Conditions

  • Independent Mode Logic: Implemented dedicated Verse logic modules for each minigame (tile color validation, snack pickup collisions, tag-transfer mechanics, and parkour goal zones).
  • Cumulative Score Pipeline: Engineered real-time victory tracking that aggregated round wins across diverse minigames to crown the tournament champion.

Codebase Refactoring & Optimization

  • Legacy Cleanup: Overhauled existing project assets, resolving logic bugs and stripping out redundant devices to deliver stable, high-throughput public play on the event floor.
